BlizzCon Coverage
As I’m sure many die-hard WoW-fans sure already know by now, sites such as WowHead and WoW Insider are following up BlizzCon and covering it with posts on their own websites. The biggest coverage most likely about the upcoming expansion pack for World of Warcraft titled “Cataclysm” (click here to view the official website). Other updates of interest may have been info such as Diablo III’s new class, the “Monk”, but that’s not about Warcraft now is it? Read my opinion on the expansion after the break.
I, personally, was a skeptic. I follow the sites like WoW Insider, Massively and MMO-Champion. Even lesser sites were claiming truth to the speculation, but that’s all it ever was: Speculation. And I never cared much that such sites may be right or wrong but rather, that they appeared to come off as people who knew everything about this expansion and everything told you had to be believed. It was almost like they expected nobody to question their unknown sources.
That’s not too much of a problem either though, journalism has always had sources they cannot reveal. Though I do believe that there are methods of releasing evidence without giving away sources, that’s not my problem because that never happened. The way people reacted towards the non-believers though was astoundingly shocking. Those who did believe, to me at least, came off looking like they were better than those who didn’t. And those who didn’t believe did as well.
I was on the fence, some of the ideas I did not like, do not like in fact. Night Elf Mages for example, make no sense lore-wise, and I believe in sticking to the lore. Goblins and Worgen sound pretty cool but also a bit weird. Goblins are cool, but who would ally themselves with werewolves? Mindless or not, some might (like Elves, perhaps?) but others might not (Varian Wrynn doesn’t seem like the accepting folk, but then look at Death Knights and how easy on man can change his opinion on that, one highly trusted man no less though).
I love the idea of the new changes, such as the secondary profession, the Guild Leveling System (something that was actually in other MMO’s first, for a change!), the new zones sound wickedly awesome. The raids sound… repetitive but that’s just me. Overall it sounds like it may be a fun expansion, but we’ll have to wait a see.
I wonder if they’ll have a beta like with Wrath of the Lich King? And furthermore, would you sign yourself up for it and play it?
